Des,

I've used the AH4 for portable operations many times using a 706 MKII and a 718. The AH4 is simply outstanding.

Instead of having to go through all the bother with getting a dipole or G5RV up on 2 supports during portable (assuming this is temporary portable) why not simply use a long wire? I've done this on all my portable ops..Here is what I've done:

Shoot about 80 feet for wire into the trees..with a decent weight and some light line I genearlly get the wire up about 60 feet or more. Connect the wire to the RF end of the AH4

Put down 4 to 6 radials...mine were between 25 to 40 feet each.

Connect the AH4 to the rig and away you go.

Takes me about 20 minutes start to finish to get things set up.

Works great on all bands!
