Hi, all!

Rather than two separate postings, I'll combine 'em.

Good luck, Cliff! It'll be sad to see a resource like AVVid go, but heaven
knows you've earned it!

=====================================

The 706's that I have (10 watt J version, and a MKIIg) are fairly sensitive
to broadband noise, more so when they were run with the remote head. I
bagged the remote in favor of a 'stanchion' mount above my radio console,
and instead put a remote head on my brand 'Y' 747-SX. That helped
significantly. (email for pics)

I also have a substantial grounding strap attached between the rig and the
console, and the rig and the chassis ground. That also helped.

What REALLY quieted it down was putting ground straps between the hood and
firewall ground, between the door and the body, between the hatch door and
the body, and, most surprisingly, between the exhaust and the frame...I'm
not sure if the exhaust was making the noise, or if adding the mass to the
groundplane made the difference...but it was significant!

the '747 is a very quiet radio, and the '706 is every bit its equal now. I
have also discovered that ANF and NB 'on', and DSP set to 3 quiets down
hash from other cars...as long as you don't want to listen to AM.

Frankly, the best mobile HF rig tht I ever used was my faithful old '745 !
