Hi Bill,
I had two Collins 618T's txcvrs on USCG C-130's.  On long trans 
Pacific flights I'd do some hamming on my #2 HF from the nav seat. 
Since the 618T was a channalized set I couldn't check into nets unless 
they were exactly on freq.  Had a great signal from a 67 ft long wire. 
  Used to check into NMH in Washington DC from Tokyo, Japan, Manila, 
PI, and the LORAN Stations in the Pacific and SE Asia.
Some hams used to complain I had a hum in my audio in SSB.  I would 
explain that was the 400 hz power source on my audio they were 
hearing.  Many didn't understand aircraft use a 400 hz A.C. bus rather 
than 60 hz.  Great rig!
