Is this just related to the original 756 or the pro and pro2 as well? Maybe they changed the display type in the pro and pro2. I have a friend with a pro2 and he might be interested in what he could be in for.
Cheers,

Knock on wood, my 756 display is still in good shape. But, it has become the
spare radio for my SO2R station, backing up a 'Pro and 'ProII. It won't take
much to install the 756 in place of one of the newer radios should I have a
problem during a contest.
It may also be pressed into some portable service from time to time.
It is a shame to have such a nice piece of equipment relegated to the scrap
heap for such a small problem, but it is not the first piece of electronics
that has suffered this fate, nor will it be the last.
The price of progress, I guess.
