[ICOM] good older Icom???

Hi Dave,

Don't mean to be argumentative - but the IC-756 does incorporate a DSP unit
in the final IF. The functionality of the IC-756's DSP is less than that of
the Pro series; even so, it performs all modulation (except FM) and most
demodulation tasks (except AM, FM). In receive, the DSP does noise reduction
and auto-notch filtering; in transmit, it performs audio equalisation.

The IC-756 uses crystal filters (FL-80 and FL-96 are factory-fitted). It
accepts one pair of accessory filters (9 MHz, 455 kHz), and offers Twin
Passband Tuning and Dual Watch. At around $800 to $1000, it is a lot of
radio for the money.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

The 756 lacks its successor's DSP, but its dual receive and LCD spectrum
display can be handy in a pileup. You also get 6m and a built-in
auto-tuner.

I am keeping an eye out for an HF radio. What would be a good one to
get? Like the most bang for the buck without spending an arm an leg on
one? I know the Icom 756Pro, 775, 781, 746Pro and others are good but a
little too much $$. What would an older good radio be? Something good
for DXing and contesting.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
73,
Renee NZ9T
