You will not be unhappy with the 7800. I kept my 781 and sold my low
drive PROII. I always preferred to use the 781 over the PROII. The
7800 is absolutely amazing. The receiver blows the PROII away in
practical use. The DIGI-SEL feature, the noise blankers, the auto-notch
effectiveness and the auto-tune features separate this receiver from the
crowd.
The is a new version of the firmware for the 7800 released this week from
Japan. It adds new features. Specifically it adds a curled moving
image screen saver, the ability to load new firmware form the memory card,
it adds the 1/4 tuning rate option to both main and sub bands and it adds
the Morse character @ to the CW keyer memory. Even if you purchase a
radio without v1.1 it is very easy to upload to your radio via your shack
network.
Buy the 7800. You won't go wrong. Listen in the 80M DX band after
midnight to hear it!

Subject: [ICOM] Need Advice About IC-7800 (To buy or not to buy)
I'm thinking about unloading most of my HF rigs to fund the purchase of an
Icom IC-7800. I've already decided to sell of the 781, 775 and the 756Pro.
But I hesitate to get rid of my pristine Yaesu FT-1000D. Love that radio,
but
wondering if I'll gain anything by keeping it, rather than putting that $2k
more towards my ultimate purchase. Just hoping that the 7800 works just as
well as the Yaesu on the lowbands. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Ed NI6S
