Rich,

Our club has a 746 pro on top of Santiago, in So. Cal. at 5600 feet. I
have seen summer temps in excess of 130 and low temps below freezing.
It has been turned on for the last 2 years, before that we had a 706
running in the same conditions, the 706 now sits in my shack and seems
to have suffered no ill effects from it's "burn in" .

We do have a relay set up on one of the digital outputs from the
controler to power off the rig in case of a TX lock up condition, It
is a all day trip to go to the hill, and the relay has saved our bacon
at least once.

Well good luck with your project, also just currious, What controller
are you going to use? we are using the NHRC-10 and are very happy with
it. It's almost plug n play.
