On a side-note... while not my primary base radio, I do have my 706
configured as a base radio when not going portable.  (Never use it mobile).

I keep it by the bed, with an AH-3.  The power supply and main module sit
under the night stand.  The control head gets mounted on a stand I built,
nicely finished with a wood base.  I can send photos to anyone interested.
The photos run about 300K, so downloading might take time if you are not on
broadband.
