My 756Pro II went to full power when on 6 meters, slamming the ALC meter
regardless of mode. It was actually transmitting down around 80 meters so if
this is what yours is doing it would explain the erratic SWR readings. I did
not discover this until it was 2 months old when I put up a 6 meter antenna.
It went back to the factory for 7 weeks and when it was returned it worked
when I first tested it, and then went back to the same problem the next time
I tried 6 Meters. ICOM said it was some diodes were bad and I have heard of
a couple others with this same problem. It is not RF feedback or a
mismatched antenna because it does it on a shielded dummy load as well as on
the antenna. I hope they fix yours better than they did mine. It is still in
warranty, but I don't have any confidence that they can fix the problem and
do not plan to return it again. I will just use my 706 MK2 G on 6 meters -
it works swell.
