- the dsp that is in the 756pro2
- menus available without having to turn the rig
off and on and scrolling menu descriptions
like ts-480
- ability to adjust data in-out levels on
acc plug like ts-480
- built in antenna tuner (that also covers 6m)
again, like ts-480
i just found my original receipt for my first
706, $1,249 with no accessories!!!
and kenwood has really uped the ante with the
ts-480 rigs... a friend bought the ts-480sat
at dayton for $899 ... the dsp is much better
than the 706 dsp... somewhere between the 706
and the 756pro(2)... of course, to finish the
ts-480 with filters, tcxo, and voice costs
another ~$350 or so...
icom has really kept the 706 "fresh" over the
past several years but it is beginning to get
a little dated...

If ICOM were to contact this reflector and ask what improvements would be
most desired in the ICOM IC-706 transceiver, what would you request?
To many it is a near perfect small package transceiver, something that I do
not doubt, but like all "near perfect" things, it is frustrating that the
"one" additional feature wasn't added which would make it "perfect".
How would you make the '706 perfect?
