Hart, the receive on HF is wonderful in my opinion. I don't have any
empirical stats but we had 2 going on field day and everyone that attended
and had not seen one in action went away saying " Wow!". I haven't operated
any 2 meter sideband so I can't answer that one. Neither of the radios at
field day had filters installed. For casual ragchewing and dxing I wouldn't
think a filter is necessary for SSB. It has decent DSP at the AF stage and
good sensitivity on all bands as far as I can tell. Several people at field
day left saying they were seriously thinking about getting one. An old timer
I know that has only used tubes in the past is also getting ready to buy
one. I can't really think of any bad points that are major to the rig. I'm
not much on picking nits though.
