[ICOM] How does a LiON battery "die"

I have not used this type of batt in radio gear but I have in my photo gear.
My opinion for what is worth, is, they are JUNK.

They usually fail after only a few charges and the owner gets discussed and
sells the unit. I picked up a Nikon for less than a song 3 moths old because
of it.

I always try and get non lion replacement batteries. I recently bought 6
new batteries for one of my Nikon SLR cameras and they shipped 6 Lion. 4
were DOA, SHOT, JUNK.

I am sure there are many that think they are wonderful but then I used to
think Drake was the only way to fly.

For the record, I was speaking in answer to Lion batts for Icom gear only.

If you purchased it new, something is definately wrong. Check the output
from the battery charger. Is there voltage?

If you purchased it used (previously owned!) then this might be the reason
the owner sold it. Often a user doesn't like a HT because it starts giving
short life, and the user doesn't understand that batteries aren't forever,
they're just "rechargable" for a while.

Many battery packs have a fuse which when the battery overheats, causes it
to fail and from then on, not accept a charge and give a faulty reading.
