[ICOM] WTB: 706 box or packing materials

Hi Mark,

Yes it does have the DSP installed. It will be my 2
meter/70cm rig, plus a mobile 6 meter radio, and used
as a secondary 6 meter receiver, as the Icom 756 is my
main HF/6 meter rig. I did hook it up and use it a
little during the 10 meter contest.

The DSP is ok. Not as good as the DSP in the 756 or
746, and not as good is in the FT100D. But the notch
function does seem better than the notch in the 100D.

The receiver seems almost too sensitive for base use.
I had to turn off the preamp or I got alot of
background noise. This makes sense since it is mainly
intended for mobile operation with compromised
antennas. The QST review shows that the MDS with the
preamp off is still better than the MDS on the FT1000
MKV with the preamp on!

Overall, I like it so far. Have had it only 5 days or
so, so really can't do any evaluations on it yet.
Haven't used it mobile yet either. The receiver does
seem better than the 706 original it replaced. I do
like the fact that you can send CW with the mic
buttons, and it works good. You are supposed to be
able to do that with the 817/897/857 also, but it is
next to impossible to get it right.
