Ron,
I no longer have my IC-775DSP but it did show many of the symptoms discussed
in this thread. The brightness flicker you mention would happen to mine but
for some reason never on the main VFO/Receiver frequency readout. It was
always on the right side of the LCD panel. Sometimes it was flicker and
sometimes it was outright absence of segments for a time. After the radio
had been on for a time -- generally over 30 minutes as I recall -- the
problem(s) would go away. I was never able to solve the problem and Icom
indicated that they had "never seen the problem." I lived with it until
parting with the radio.

Has anyone had the display 'flicker' when turned on?
My 775DSP display's brightness will flicker for 5 to 15 minutes when first
turned on, and then it settles down to a solid display brightness.

For Elan DL9FCC: My 775 did the same thing till finally the lights went out
completely. I had to send it to ICOM Canada in Vancouver to incorporate a
Mod and repair a cold solder joint (IMAGINE THAT). And I had to pay for it
also, not a happy camper. However the rig works FB now, touch wood.
While I'm at it - if only Icom would have gone a bit further in the
development of this Xcvr, ie separate audio output when on dual watch
instead of that stupid balance control.
When on dual watch I never know which VFO is talking to me - and there is
more ----.!!!
Otherwise the basis for a fine radio. 73 de Cal.
