I don't have a MKI, but I sometimes talk longer than 30 seconds. I am one
known for timing out the repeater's three minute timer. No problem here on
20 watts FM! :)

I don't know what a WSJT is, but the Icom will be just fine.

Subject: [ICOM706] Icom 706 on WSJT

I have just picked up an Icom 706 MKI (10 watts on 2
meters) to use on VHF. I plan to get a 10 watt input
2 meter amp to use with it, and wonder if anyone on
the list has run this rig on WSJT. I figure that it
shouldn't get too hot since it is only running at 10
watts, but that is the max power output for 2 meters.
When I had other higher power 2 meter radios I would
lower them to 10 watts output to drive the amp. So
will the 706 handle for full 10 watts out for 30
second periods with a 30 second receive period between
each transmission?
