[ICOM] [Fwd: Insert for BP3 battery pack]

This reflector was the place to come with my question about the BP3.

Lots of guys wrote (some direct to me and some via the reflector) to
tell me the two-terminal component is a thermal cutout device that has a
function with rapid chargers but not with the wall wart type chargers.

I use a wall wart charger with a timer and, so, based on the info from
you guys, I'm not going to bother with the thermal cutout.

Thanks to all of you for the help!!

I recently bought an insert for the BP3 battery pack I use with my IC2AT.

Started to unsolder the old battery pack from the BP3 and notice that it
has a two-terminal component wired between the sixth and seventh cells
(counting from the positive terminal). The component is metallic,
rectangular, has a plastic sleeve around it and is taped such that it
lies against the sixth and seventh cells.

Wonder what that component is? Is it needed with the insert I bought? I
don't see a similar component in the new insert.

The old battery pack with the two-terminal component is the original
that came with the IC2AT in the 1980's.

Thanks.
