[ICOM] Yet another question about 706 rig

Hi Jim,
If the data you are trying to send to the transceiver is RS-232 or similar
serial data, there are Ethernet serial servers available quite reasonably
now. I use one for all my serial data. (Radio control and rotor control
for example). I do it so I can control the radio from different computers.
However it would solve your problem as the server could be located near the
radio and you either run a cable or use a wireless connection.
These devices were originally designed for point of sale cash register
systems. Apparently serial connections are becoming obsolete in those
systems.
These devices originally cost near $1000. I have picked a few up as brand
new in the box surplus on eBay for as little as $25.00.
They come in various different connector types and numbers of ports. I am
using an 8 port one with db-9 connectors right now.
On eBay, search for serial port server or Systech (the company that makes
all the ones I have).
Good luck with the project,
Ken W7TS
