[ICOM] Yet another question about 706 rig

I'm just wondering. The room where my radio is set up also serves as a
computer room. The computer is on one wall (to be near the telephone line)
while the IC 706 MK II G is on the opposite wall (to run a ground wire
through a window). The computer has a 10Base-T network card installed and
several as yet unused USB ports. Would it be possible to use either an
802.11x wireless adaptor at the computer (either on the USB port or on the
network port) and a similar converter nearer the radio and fed into the data
port to send/receive some of the different data modes the 706 can utilize?

I had not seen any question on this specific topic here in the past, so I'm
not sure if it had already been addressed. If it has, please forgive the
ignorance and direct me to the information. If it has not and anyone is
able to help, thank you very much.

Thanks to all for the information already posted on the different Icom
products and comparisons to other products.

73's to all.
