[ICOM] 706 internal fuse.

Hello all,

I was out on a portable expedition recently and blew the fuse in my 706
Mk2G.  Firstly, can anyone tell me what the purpose of the fuse is?

Does it need to be replaced with any special type or will any glass fuse of
the same value suffice?

Another mystery is how it came to blow in the first place.  Does anyone who
has a better knowledge of the 706 design than myself have a suggestion as to
why this might have happened.  The reason I ask is that although the radio
seems to work as well as it did before the fuse blew, I am concerned about
what else if anything in the rig might have been damaged.
