I live 1/2 mile from the ham who is one of the test sites for K1DFT's
antennas. He has one each of the 40m and 160m verticals installed and I
can confirm they really work, even over a non-optimal ground situation.
If I recall correctly, the pair are sitting on a 15 foot or so radius
chicken wire ground plane and multiple radials (not sure of the
lengths). The site has very rocky soil...certainly not a great location
for a 1/4 wave vertical.
Now if I can only talk K1DFT into loaning me an 80m version for my attic...
