[ICOM] IC-4KL

Hi Marty,
The 4KL will work just fine with your Pro2. Please see my earlier posting
concerning operation with the Orion. The IC-4KL will interface with any Icom
exciter (including the IC-730 with the LDA board.) It is absolutely
mandatory to connect the ALC line (this occurs via the ACC cable to an Icom
transceiver) and calibrate the ALC for 1kW CW output.
The Orion does not have an external ALC input. This precludes its safe use
as an exciter for the IC-4KL.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] IC-4KL
Hello everyone,
Does anyone out there have an Icom 4KL ? I am curious if it is a good
amplifier, and how reliable is it ? Adam told me that is has Bi-polar
junction transistors as opposed to Mosfets. I haven't had any experience
with BPJ transistors, but I have with Mosfets. Besides the Icom 756 Pro II
that I have, I also have a Ten-Tec Orion which I would like to control it.
Paul at Ten-tec seemed very positive in the fact that I can control it. Are
BPJ's reliable ? I would just be purchasing this 4KL, sight unseen, from
another ham. He claims that everything is perfect, and in 30 years of ham
radio I haven't been burnt yet. Can anyone help me ? Thanks and perhaps I
should look at the VL-1000, but I prefer Icom.
Kind regards to all,]
Marty, W3QK
