[ICOM] Replacement batteries for IC-2AT

Hi Steve,

You can purchase already-assembled drop-in NiCad packs (inserts) for the
BP-3 from aftermarket battery vendors such as Alexander, W&W, Mr. NiCad etc.
These inserts wire into the charge-control circuit inside the BP-3 case.

As far as NiMH cells go, these may be incompatible with the charge-control
circuit. The BC-25U charges the battery in conjunction with this circuit.
You could check with the battery vendor.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Subject: [ICOM] Replacement batteries for IC-2AT

I've got an IC-2AT with a IC-BP3 battery pack and BC-25U wall wart. The
BP3 has seven 270mAH cells that are shot.

A couple of questions about which I'd appreciate thoughts and advice.

Can I install NiMH batteries in the BP3 instead of nicads?

Should I install NiMH batteries in the BP3 instead of nicads?

If I do use NiMH's, can I charge them the same way I've been charging the
nicads? Any cautions or concerns about overcharging? Or, for that matter,
undercharging?

Can I buy the seven cells of whichever type soldered and taped together with
pigtails for connecting into the BP3? From where?

Thanks.

Steve
