Thanks everyone for the input.  There was a wide range of comments, on-group
and off.  I'll have to check the reviews of various rigs and brands.

This situation came about because I recently sold my trusty 32AT.  A *very*
reliable brick, but a bit much to haul around Europe for the occasional qso.
I used this rig,--without the 1750Hz tone-- three years in eastern Europe.
But, I found myself wishing it had features outside the ham bands as well.
This is why I'm interested in the broadcast and shortwave features.

Thanks also to the wellwishers.  I'll pack my license, and my laminated copy
of the CEPT right next to my passport, and BancoMat/Cashpoint card!   (BTW,
Hans, I'll be in Belgium and in the Netherlands in November.)
