I looked at the T90 when I was in the market for an HT last and my choice
was the Kenwood TH-F6A. I had a T81A, which I thought was a pretty decent
HT, but I wanted the all-mode RX, dual receive and 220mHz that the TH-F6A
offered, so I picked up the little Kenwood. It's a very nice HT- well made,
long battery life and a buckload of features, seemingly everything the T90
has and more.
In addition, the TH-F6A charges in 4 hours instead of 15, operates while
charging- which the T90 won't do- and will operate off 13.8 volts, instead
of the 11 volts the T90 requires. On the downside, Kenwood doesn't offer a
quick charger for the F6A (although after-market fast chargers are
available) and it has a plastic case instead of the metal case on the T90,
although the TH-F6A seems rugged and very well made.
Although it seems popular here on the list, I would avoid the W32A. It's a
fairly nice HT, but the technology is a decade old, it's relatively big and
it lacks many of the features of newer HTs, like DCS.
Have fun on your trip!
73,
Scott, W9AL
