IC-245 Repair (was [ICOM] Re IC765 No Transmit)

As I said in an earlier message on the subject,
I had an IC-22 that failed that way. I used
clipped gold-plated leads from resistors as my
through-hole connectors. I made a small 90
degree bend and soldered it on one side of
the board. Then fold the part going through
the hole over, clip off what isn't needed and
solder it to the trace. If I remember, somebody
referred to the wire leads as "Z-wires."

A better repair is the use of through-hole
replacement eyelets such as those available
through/from Pace (the soldering station folks)
and probably others.

I think one or more of my "repairs" seems to
have failed, though. I'll try again eventually
with the through-hole eyelets that are folded
over on each side of the board and soldered
on each side.

I have had good results soldering them. Desolder the plated holes. Slip a
thin strand of wire through the hole and solder it on both sides anchoring
it well to the board on both sides. Then resolder the rivet for extra hold.

Yes, it takes time. But you can do it yourself. Or you can pay someone
shop-rates to do it for you.
