[Icom] Damage

I feel your pain.....
I took a small feeder strike about a month ago.
I found that even leaving the ground attached can invite damage....especially if ground potential
is raised due to a nearby or direct strike.
I know people that have had radios sitting on a shelf in a box get damaged
due to a strike.....of course the strike went through the wires in the wall behind the closet.
The point here is that the radios were not connected to anything.

In my book, all bets are off when it comes to lightning....it has a bad habit of sneaking into everything.

WOW! Sorry to hear this.

I have a patch panel where I can disconnect EVERYTHING except the ground.
My ground is a 20ft length of 3/4 copper pipe, and 6 ft of 00 copper wire.

Fortunately, El Paso don't get much lightning. No Tornados. No Hurricanes.
We do have wind, dust, and HEAT. But over-all... a safe place for radios.

Wish you a speedy recovery.
