[Icom] IC 746 Pro

From what I know of the Kenwood, it is a solid but not as sophisticated =
a
radio as the 746 PRO. But then it is also less expensive. I have a 746 =
PRO
which I like very much. I decided against the 756 PRO II because I =
didn't
feel that the extra $1000 was warranted for my needs. My interest is =
mostly
in recreational hamming as opposed to contests, etc.

Overall, your choices span just about everything from simple and direct =
with
a few features to very sophisticated with many features and very =
expensive.

My feeling is that today you get what you pay for more or less although =
many
people have fierce loyalties.

The real question is what do you want from your radio?

1. Bragging rights
2. The best there is for a demanding application
3. Recreational use
4. Best performance at a given price=20
5. Association with a particular group, e.g. buying an H-D motorcycle
6. Something else?

Once you figure that out, advice can be more focused.

Subject: [Icom] IC 746 Pro

As you know I am going to have to replace my IC 736 that UPS has seen =
fit to
destroy. I have read the E-ham reviews of the 746 Pro but would like to =
hear
from you guys about it. I am also considering a Yaesu FT 920 and a =
Kenwood
TS 570 SG. The 736 had it's own ac power supply, 6 meters, and auto =
tuner. I
see every other radio available as a compromise. Oh, I also am =
considering a
Yaesu FT 1000 Field. It doesn't have 6. I am a little scared of the 746 =
pro
after reading the E-ham reviews. I need some clarity soon as factory =
rebates
on the Kenwood are running out and Icom is offering a " free " power =
supply
with the 746 and 756 for a limited time. Input please.=20
