[Icom] IC-751A receive problem

My IC-751A has served my well for several years but now a problem has =
developed in the receiver.  Hot or cold and without warning I get S9+ =
static which wipes out all signals.  There are times when the receiver =
works just fine until I key the mic and do not speak: I get the same =
level S9+ static.  I use a foot pedal to key the mic and if I tap the =
pedal a few times the S9+ static goes away.  This is a come and go =
problem.  The other night I work 75 and 40 meters phone without a =
problem.  The problem does not seem to appear on CW when I key the rig.  =
Any thoughts??
