Ed,

Sorry to hear about your trouble.

In cases like this, I always wonder:

How was it packed? That is, how much space separated the contents from the
exterior of the box? What filled that space?

Was the damaged gear the only item in the box? If not, how were any extra
items placed and secured?

Was it double boxed? What was the spacing between the two boxes?

In any case, was the outer box damaged in any way?

The reasoning behind my questions should be obvious: Some folks just don't
get it when it comes to proper packaging. Your package may have been packaged
well. On the other hand, maybe it wasn't.

However, there may be some hope for you. Once, I received a package from UPS
that contained 4 different pieces of electronic equipment. The contents
weren't even close to being packed properly. Two of the larger items were
placed one directly on top of the other! And, as you might have guessed, the
one on the bottom suffered from the experience.

Even though the packing was woefully inadequate (even after I cautioned the
seller/shipper about proper packing), UPS paid off. Due to the lack of
concern (big surprise) on the part of the seller/shipper, it took over 3
months to get the claim paid. But, it could have been paid in less than a
month, if the seller/shipper had done their part. But, the seller/shipper was
clueless in addition to being careless.

The good news is that, if it was properly packaged, you should be OK. The bad
news is you're gonna have to wait a while. Get the paperwork done ASAP and
then find something else to do.

Good luck,

Bill
