ed... ups claims settlements are arbitrary at best... you will receive only
"up to" the amount the rig was insured for. if it was insured for
replacement value, and you can provide "msrp" from a reliable source...
ie.. aes.. hro.. original advertisement with msrp printed etc, you will
have to plead your case to the adjuster... however since you were not the
shipper, you have "no status" in the proceedings, and they may not deal with
you. your claim is technically between your shipper and you, not ups and
you. if the settlement is not satisfactory, your only recourse is against
the person who shipped it to you.. good luck paul w8jn

Well, I got my IC 736 back today. I had a new display installed and
backlights. Opened the box , hooked it up and lo and behold the display had
about 20 cracks and lcd leakage everywhere plus the vfo barely moves. As if
someone hit the radio in the face with a hammer. The repair guy that shipped
it back is filing a damage report but if it gets replaced I will only get
about $850 out of a radio I paid almost $1700 for. The UPS name will now be
known as "mud" in this house. Should I get the radio repaired at UPS prices
or ask for the money for a new one?
