Adam,
if our dollar continues to rise (as some in the know seem to feel it will),
it shall be interesting to see whether ICOM actually adjusts its wholesale
price to Can dealers, and whether the retail price is reflective of this. In
the past, I have not seen this happen to the extent it should. Also, believe
ICOM Canada ties its price to the USD rather than to the Yen directly.

Have you tried looking around at any of the hamfests in upstate New York,
such as Rochester or Hamburg? They are only a few hours' drive from Toronto.

You should be able to pick up a fairly decent solid-state HF rig such as an
IC-735 or IC-728 for around USD 500. Even with the GST and PST, with the
Canadian dollar at 71 cents US, this will not break the bank. There are also
partial exemptions if you are out of Canada for more than 48 hours (as I
recall).

You might also wish to consider moderating your language on a public forum
such as this.
