I have an 8000 and only regret that I did not have one much earlier! 
However I must caution all new owners to do the one thing we all hate to 
do!  READ AND FOLLOW THE MANUAL!  Almost daily I hear someone on the air 
who is perplexed or just plain mad with their 8000, they recently 
purchased at the Charlotte Hamfest, (i.e.: "conditions are the worst I 
have ever seen, I can't even get an s-1 on the bar graph") this is due 
to the squelch being set to tight which also appears to attenuate the 
signal strength, this is a feature, I for one like very much. When these 
same people with no s meter reading back off the squelch, guess what.

Not all but many radio problems are more properly defined as operator 
malfunction!
