[Icom] W2IHY & Heil GM-4

Would like to get any advice on use of the W2IHY equalizer with the Heil
GM-4. I'm got them connected to an Icom 746 original, (not a Pro). Adjusting
the W2IHY equalizer was simple, but I am still playing with the adjustments
on the rig. My tone is set at +10, compression at 12:00, and mic gain also
at 12:00. The reports I get on HF side band are favorable, but on VHF FM I'm
told it's too loud. So on VHF, I just turn the EQ off. Would like to hear
what other stations, using similar setups, have their adjustments at and if
you have any pointers that might improve performance. Thanks for the help.
