Hi Chris,
The Manual Notch is excellent for notching out a single interfering tone
without swamping. The Auto-Notch will take out multiple tones, but as it is
post-AGC, strong interfering signals will swamp the receiver.
Using the Twin PBT, you can move the upper and lower flanks of the IF
passband independently of one another, to slice off adjacent-channel
interference on either or both sides of the desired signal. (A small graphic
display on the upper edge of the screen serves as a Twin PBT tuning aid.)
The Manual Notch can be used in conjunction with Twin PBT, to sharpen up the
passband edge. You can also use the lower-flank Twin PBT to slice away
excessive low-frequency audio components in a received SSB signal, if you
find that the "boomy" lows degrade intelligibility.
The Noise Blanker will suppress impulse noise if adjusted correctly (via the
NB threshold on the Pro II).
You will find that the User Manual offers some good tips on the proper use
of these controls.
Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Adam:
I, with some lack of knowledge, have been trying to use the Notch, Nosie
Blanker and PBT to reject, select, so that I can receive what I want to
reeive. However, I feel that I have not been doing it correctly. Any
suggestion on how to do such? Basically for SSB for now.
