Johnny -
I believe we have gone over this before where I itemized a number of points
- at least 6 - where the original 756 did not meet its implied superiority
as marketed by Icom. It wasn't a terrible radio by any means - just
terribly disappointing.
All Icom had to do.... was put a bandscope on a 751A or 765 and I would of
been happy, but instead they pushed an unfinished radio out the door with a
lousy noise blanker, inferior AM selectivity and tuning rate, edits in the
filter selection, crackly DSP NR and no IF Notch. None of these issues
should be present in a radio in this price class.
Since the radio is no longer marketed, I really don't see much point in
arguing the merits or lack thereof. I consider the IC756 has one of the
worst Icoms I have ever known. Certainly at the time, it offered
considerable "bells and whistles", but not much meat.
