Hi Clete,
I doubt think you are "missing" much if anything. The listing of serial
numbers started because someone had just received a "new" ProII with a
SN 18?? and he just wanted to know if that was the range of currently
shipping ProII's or if the SN's were higher.
This "serial number envy" problem occurred back in the 60's with
Collins, when ham customers refused to take delivery of Collins gear
from "off the shelf stock" because the serial number was lower than what
they heard others on the air using, so they were afraid they were
missing something. Collins solved that problem by scrambling the serial
number system so except for very early models there is no relationship
to serial number vs build date on things like Collins KWM-2 and 2A's.
Collins also provided Information and Service Bulletins so people would
know what changes had been made over the life cycle of the radio and
provided instructions and kits of parts for people to add the changes if
they desired to bring the radio up to the latest EC. Trying to get the
same information out of modern day manufacturers is like trying to pull
hens teeth.
