Noted this effect on both the Hand mic and D-104. The D-104 is always
stornger with compressor off, but this adjustment made a definite difference
on both mics.
I am trying to find out what R511 is controlling: modulation, ALC, RF
Pwr...?

* Larry;
* Are you using a stock mic with the 706? I've been
* using the Heil HS-706 with real good audio reports.....

* I went to mods.dk and found the latest mod for the 706 (orig) was to
* increase SSB power by adjusting R511. Well, as we know, SSB
* audio has been
* a problem with the 706 since it hit the market, so I had to try it. I
* applied a signal to the mic input with the compressor OFF and
* watched a Watt
* meter as I adjusted the trimmer. At full rotation, the meter
* moved from
* about 40 Watts to 80 Watts, matching that of the maximum CW
* signal I could
* achieve from this radio. On the air reports indicate a clean
* signal, no
* overdriving the audio.
*
* When I see an adjustment like this I wonder, why is it not
* adjusted to this
* point at the factory? Does anyone know what R511 does?
