Hi all!
I really dont know what to do. Now I have big problems.
I were in the U.S. a couple of weeks and got a Heil Proset Plus IC with me
back. The thing is, that it sounds awfully. Well I am not sure it is the
headset or the IC-775DSP or the combination of the two (or me???).
I begin with the IC-element. There seem to be a lot of low-mid, more than a
lot. Some real bass, but not to much compared to low mid. There is not much
high-mid and absolutly no treble what so ever. The settings are "Tone" 12 o
clock. DSP: Low 200 and high 2,9 (highest possible). Drive is 12 o klock and
micgain is between 11 and 12. COMP is on. The sound is undefined, like
talking into two empty tins with a string between. Just the low-mid seem to
bee there. If I talk just infront of the opening of the mic-element there
seem to be some high-mid but not that much. If I talk the least beside,
above or below the element there is only low-mid and it sounds as I have a
clothes peg attached to my nose.
With the HC-4 element it gets better with some more high-mid but still no
treble, and the level is to low to make the VOX to work reliable.
I have a SM-20 deskmike. It sounds much better with bas to high mid, but it
could use some more treble. Gain is no issue as it has the amp. I use 40 to
45% on the mic.
I have a handmike, a ICOM HM-15 I think. It has the standard ICOM electret
condeser mic element. It sounds the best. Full range bass to treble. Not as
much treble as my TS-850 with hi-boost and compressor, but enough to make
local QSO's commendable.
Now back to the Heil IC element. If I put "Tone" to maximum, talk just
infront of the element, and switch of PSN on TX I get rid of some of the
"tin to tin" comunication sound, but then it is only narrow mid-mid. It
sounds very boring. Not good for DX and not enjoyable for local QSOs.
One could think there is a problem with the Heil IC element, but why is the
HC-4 also the same and even the SM-20 has the same tendency? If the radio is
broken, why is the hand mike ok?
I am so confused that you havent heard of it before!
Please, any help is appreciated!
