There's a way to verify the indicated frequency
if you have a second receiver that can be tuned
to WWV in the AM mode. With both receivers tuned
to WWV, the good receiver on AM, and the sick
receiver tuned to USB or LSB, look for an
audio beat note between the two speakers. If the
sick receiver is really off, move its tuning a
wee bit until you do get the beat note to a null.
Check both USB and LSB. Let's hope the sick
receiver shows the WWV frequency right on. The
tuning of the AM receiver is not critical as long
as you can hear a good tone. (There are some
minor refinements to this process, but here is
