[Icom] Ten Tec

Bill,

As a frequent - probably too frequent! - contributor to this list, I and
many others feel that discussions of the Ten Tec ORION in comparison to the
PRO2 and the coming 7800 are very much appropriate subject matter. Learning
about other comparable radios is how we learn more about our own.

I think of our group not as a cheering section for Icom but as a technically
oriented group with an interest in the architecture and design of *all*
radios. I personally greatly enjoy learning about the design and
implementation of radios in the same marketplace as the Icom models.

I see a lot of flak and resentment on the Ten Tec list aimed at those of us
who use Icoms and make mention of that fact when discussing the ORION. Many
on the Ten Tec list are quite territorial and want to see nothing but praise
for Ten Tec products.

But, the ORION is aimed squarely at the PRO2 and 7800 market slots and
should not be persona non grata here just because of the manufacturer.

I feel confident that most of the list members are open to mature technical
and reasoned discussion of all makes in comparison to the Icom models so
that we might better understand our chosen radios.

If we get too far afield, I am also confident that Dick will sort us out
pronto!
