Hi Charlie,
Here is a procedure for setting up the ALC adjustment (usually a pot on the
amp's rear panel, or a menu item on microprocessor-controlled amplifiers).
1. Preset ALC control on amplifier to minimum.
2. Tune up the amplifier normally.
3. Adjust drive level (exciter RF Power control) for full rated output from
the amplifier, or legal limit (whichever is less).
4. Advance ALC control until amplifier output drops slightly.
The ALC is now correctly set, and will limit the amplifier output to the
value obtained in Step 3 above, irrespective of band. At this point, the ALC
meter scale on the IC-756Pro II will read in the ALC zone.
