[Icom] ICOM 706PRO

Hi George,

A fascinating aspect of all this is that the IC-703 down-converts from
64.455 MHz to 455 kHz in one step; there is no longer a 9 MHz IF.
Hmmm...pull the 455 kHz IF strip, and replace it with a down-converter to 36
kHz to feed the DAC?

An AltaVista translation of the webpage is quite revealing.

Cheers for now, 73,

I was surmising that the cost of redesigning the radio to incorporate the
DSP architecture would not be consistent with continuing to offer the 70 cm
band. It was a hunch - not based on any fact.

In retrospect, considering the price of the 746PRO compared to its original
price, Icom can probably do the redesign and sell the radio cheaper with new
features!
