A happy chapter, if not yet an ending. I came home today and turned the PRO
II on, and lo and behold - An undocumented feature of ICOM - It had healed
itself. The receiver is alive and well. I still don't know where the strike
was, but it must have been of very low (induced?) amplitude to do as little
damage as it did. I suspect my broadband ISP hookup because of the NIC
cards. Still to be seen is if the control interface lives or not, but I
suspect it's the W1GEE interface. I didn't get a loopback test (I don't
think) but it's an inexpensive enough escape. I would just hate to have to
ship the radio.
Oh well, looking good so far.
