Hi George, Mac & Greg:

George, although I am a mere kid, 11 years your junior <g>, I fully second
your remarks.

Mac, I appeal to you not to give up on the IC-756Pro2 yet. There are a lot
of friendly folks out here who will be glad to assist you with any questions
you might have. There is quite a bit of 756Pro/Pro2-related material on my
website, especially on the Icom page. There are basic settings which will
get the radio "up & running" properly; as you get more comfortable in the
"driving seat", you will be able to experiment with filter settings,
transmit equalisation etc. As Greg mentioned, the IC-756Pro2 is a
transceiver much like other transceivers, and its basic operation does not
differ too much from that of any other solid-state transceiver. So please
don't let its capabilities intimidate you.

I am also a retired electrical/telecom engineer, and have been licensed
since 1962. I have run the whole gamut from a WW2 RAF R1155B and a
severely-modified ARC-5 transmitter to a 756Pro2 and a 756Pro, and enjoyed
each step in the evolution of radio technology. I must admit that exposure
to test instrumentation such as spectrum analysers during my working career
really led me to appreciate and enjoy a spectrum scope on an HF transceiver.

There is a lot of Pro2 documentation available; you can even download the
service manual on http://www.qsl.net/icom/ for a peek under the hood.

Cheers for now, 73,
Adam VA7OJ/AB4OJ

Can't buy that "too old" stuff, Mac!

I will soon be 74 and I have been running a PRO since September 2000. Got a
PRO2 in November 2002 and just traded the original PRO for a 746PRO.

I started back with the Hallicrafters S-20R in 1945 and graduated to a
National HRO-5TA1 back then, so I have been around the block a few times.
They are all "complex" until we get to know them . . .

Don't let that radio get your goat, Mac. It *is* different and you have to
work through the manual to use it "right" but there are few other radios out
there that can touch its performance in my view.

On the other hand, you should have no trouble selling it, but I hate to see
you give up just because of the complexity!   <:}
