Dear Group,

It is a very long mail. If you are not interested, you may stop here =
and delete the message.=20
One of my colleague is so fond of IC781 and owns 6 of them. In the =
past, I told him that the biggest problem with this rig was overheat in =
the power supply unit. He did not believe me so that eventually two of =
his rigs got smoked. After opened up his defected rigs, I noticed that =
the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply unit were all burst and =
burnt marks were everywhere.=20

Eventually he believed what I said and ordered a huge step down =
transformer to turn domestic 230V AC supply to 200 V to suit his rigs. =
Now, he notices the following and would like to get some advice from =
you:

1. After using the step down transformers, every time when he =
switches on his rigs, the red TX lamp will light up for half of a second =
and everything turns normal.=20

2. Every time when he switches off his rigs, the signal meter will =
give a brief full-scale deflection before everything is quiet.

He also owns a ICR9000 receiver. This time he does vary about the =
power supply unit and tries to use the step down transformer as well. =
However, when he uses the step down transformer to operate his receiver =
under 200V, the receiver does not function well but generate a lot of =
internal birdies.

He is now very upset because he has spent a fortune in his collection. =
Since his English is not too good, he has asked me to put forward his =
questions here. Could all of you give your explanation to the above =
phenomenon. Thanks a lot. =20

Today is the Chinese New Year eve. The year of Goat is coming. Wish =
you all a prosperous year of Goat and =A1=A5Kung Hei Fat Choy=A1=A6 =A1V =
a Chinese New Year greeting.
