[Icom] T81 vs T90

Sad to see Icom discontinue the T81-probably the best
HT ever built. I am even more surprised to see that
the T90 is presumably the replacement for it. To me,
it seems that the only advantage that the T90 has is
the lithium ion battery. The battery life was always
a problem on the T81.

I guess the T90 also has a wider UHF receiver. That
is one thing I prefered on the T8 to the T81-it was
much easier to open up the receiver on the T8.

So what is the big improvement on the T90 that makes
in a worthy successor to the T81? Being able to
receive HF?? Please!! Why would someone want to SWL
with an HT anyway? Also, it seems to me that it would
just be more frustrating-you could hear all of the
stuff rolling in on HF, but not be able to work it.
If I was away from the home station, I would rather
not know what I am missing.

Maybe I am the only one, but I think that Icom fell
down with the T90. It was awesome having Microwaves
on the T81-worth a few more contest QSOs and grids.
Would much rather have that than some worthless
wideband HF receive.

So is the T90 a worthy successor or not? I would be
interested in hearing your opinions.
