John, I am using the Icom mkii g in my mini van. So far I am well pleased. I
have it matched to an Outbacker Stealth with an MFJ 945 tuner to extend
bandwidth. I have the face plate mounted on the dash so I can see it without
taking my eyes off the road too much. I obviously stay on one band while
driving but have enjoyed a lot ot dx sitting in parking lots waiting on the
xyl while she shops. I considered the Kenwood but the deciding factor was
the fact that the Icom does have 6, 2 and 440. I run a seperate dual bander
but if it has to go to the repair shop I have the Icom for backup. I got the
Icom at Dayton for $699 plus tax brand new. Hope this helps.
