Hi Jerry,
The roll-off in the 5.5 ~ 5.9 MHz range is most likely intended to ensure
that the radiated third-harmonic energy on 160m does not exceed limits
specified in FCC Part 97.307(d). I honestly doubt that the designers of a
radio employing up-conversion to a 1st IF well above the upper end of the
radio's frequency coverage would carry over such an ancient relic.
