I've used a few ICOM transceivers, and a TS-940, on frequencies
outside the amateur bands.  One test for the antenna tuner was to
measure at all the 100 KHz points from 30 MHZ down to about 1600
KHZ.  I never had a problem with full output until the 756ProII
came along.  Not to point fingers, but it's possible ICOM planned
the roll-off in the 5 to 6 MHZ area to plan for the new amateur
band being established there.  Of course, they would have a minor
snip-snip to a few band pass components for sale at that time.
And, I could be wrong.  If Adam knows what type  filters are in 
there we could maybe reverse engineer and undo what ICOM did to
cause the roll-off.            73   Clete
