[Icom] Wall Chargers for IC-2/3/4SAT series

Does anyone know whether a BC-74A wall wart charger from the IC-2/3/4SAT series will charge a 12V external battery pack?  I know that you can get external 12V NiMH packs for these radios, but I believe that the charger is only 12V and therefore will only charge the 7.2V or 9.6V (if there are any) battery packs.  I also believe that you probably shouldn't input more than 12-14V to the radio, therefore, the 12V packs have to be charged separate from the radio.  Can anyone confirm that?
